BHA Letter to Board Urges Action!

(Our State Senator is Velmanette Montgomery at 718-643-6140.)

Hello All,

I am grateful to each of you for signing onto the Brooklyn Heights Association’s letter to Governor Cuomo, Majority Leader Flanagan and Speaker Heastie urging the NYS Legislature to pass legislation authorizing the City’s use of design build to rehabilitate the Brooklyn Queens Expressway. Please find attached a copy of the letter.

Unfortunately, the dysfunction of Albany was much in evidence during the legislative session that ended yesterday, since it failed to enact this vital legislation. While there will be another opportunity to do so, time is running short. On June 28th, NYCDOT will introduce the design team that will evaluate design options and prepare the environmental analysis for the rehabilitation project over the upcoming 18 months. At the end of this period, NYCDOT will initiate Final Design, and having design build authority will be critical in advance of this next phase.

I spoke to Senator Squadron’s office today to inquire what we could do as concerned communities. The Legislature may be called back into session in the coming days attend to the Mayor’s control of the school system, which was not renewed during the session that just ended. Squadron’s office suggested that we could urge our constituents to call their local Senator to ask them to pass design build legislation.

I again appreciate your support and hope you will continue to advocate for design build authority for NYC. If I can be helpful, please let me know.

Best wishes. Peter
